The Initial Consultation: How TKG Designs a Custom Home Around the Way You Live

When you’re planning a custom home, it’s tempting to start with the numbers: how many bedrooms, where the kitchen goes, how many square feet. Those details matter, but they’re only the skeleton of a home. At TKG Custom Homes, the heart of a custom build is found in your daily life. That is why our process begins with the Initial Consultation, a dedicated time to explore how you actually live, entertain, and use your space before a single line is drawn.

We’re a Seguin custom-home builder, and we know a house has to fit the way your family moves through the day. During this one meeting, which typically lasts one to two hours, you will meet with Coy to discuss your budget, your timeline, and the home you have in mind. You do not need to bring blueprints. Just bring your vision.

Together, we walk through a lifestyle questionnaire. We ask the questions that matter: How do you live? How long do you plan to stay? What matters most to you? We also ask you to bring a general budget range, any inspiration photos or homes you have admired, and a basic idea of the bedrooms, bathrooms, and layout you need. That way, we cover both the practical requirements and the personal preferences that make a house feel like home.

Knowing your habits lets us build in the features that make a home easy to live in. Maybe that is a mudroom that works for your family’s routine, or a kitchen where several people can cook together without crowding. Generic templates miss those details, and they are the difference between a house that looks good and a home that feels right.

We take this time because we want to build with you, not just for you. Aligning on priorities early keeps the design true to how you live. It is a plainspoken process where we listen first and design second.

When you leave the Initial Consultation, you will have a clear sense of whether your budget and vision line up. More importantly, you will have given the TKG team a solid foundation to work from. We take your insights on vision and location and use them to prepare for our next meeting, where we can dive deeper into the specifics. There is no pressure. It is an honest conversation about feasibility, designed to help you move forward with confidence.

If you are considering building a custom home in Seguin, we invite you to schedule an Initial Consultation. Share your vision, and we will show you how we turn your daily life into a functional, beautiful space. Let’s start with the way you live.
